- Britney Spears is getting the biopic treatment
- It will be based on her 2023 memoir The Woman In Me
- A director has already been found

Britney Spears is one of the most important pop icons of the last 30 years, so it makes complete sense that she should be the subject of a Hollywood biopic.
Reports of the film were confirmed in the summer of 2024, with Spears posting on social media how “excited” she was to be revealing the news.
She wrote on X, “Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with” producer Marc Platt.

Who is directing it?
When Universal bought Spears’ smash-hit 2023 book, Wicked director Jon M. Chu signed on to bring the pop princess’ life story to the big screen.
The director of Wicked, Wicked: Part Two, and Crazy Rich Asians (just to name a few) is taking on Britney Spears' biopic, The Woman in Me! Plus, Britney will be "very involved" in the project. Can’t wait to see how this turns out!

In November 2024, he told The Hollywood Reporter that the Crossroads star “represents a generation of people growing up in the 2000s and late 90s.”
“She has a story that deserves to be told properly. There’s a lot about us in it,” Chu said.
Is Britney Spears working on it too?
While at the Golden Globes, Chu revealed while appearing at the Golden Globes red carpet that Spears will be “very involved” in the film.
He told Entertainment Tonight, “She’s going to be very involved.”
Has it started filming?
The film is still in the early stages of pre-production ergo cameras haven’t started rolling yet.
Chu explained to ET, “I haven’t really started anything fully yet,” but reassured fans.
“I have ideas and things, an approach, but it’s very early,” he said.

While at the awards show, Chu admitted that he had “seen all fan castings” and was actually taking “those into consideration” as “maybe there’s a good idea out there.”
“But we’ll have to see what the approach of the movie is before we know who’s right for it,” he continued.

What did Britney Spears say about the thought of a biopic before?
Well, Spears notably didn’t seem very keen when Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown expressed her desire to play her on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2022.
“I wanna play a real person, and I think for me, it would be Britney Spears. Her story resonates with me. Growing up in the public eye. Watching her videos, watching interviews when she was younger… I see the scramble for words,” she told host Drew Barrymore.
Upon hearing this, Spears shot off on her Instagram, writing on the platform, “I hear about people wanting to do movies about my life… dude I’m not dead!!!”.
